Making God Known is one of our highest priorities at Word of Life Church. We are constantly looking for creative and effective ways to reach into our community with the message of Jesus to transform hearts and change lives. We believe in being intentional about telling the world the good news of Jesus and showing them His love and compassion. There are several ways we do this:

First, and this may seem obvious, but we challenge each person who calls Word of Life Church home to be active in inviting people to the service on Sunday mornings. God has placed us where we are and given us a sphere of influence to make an impact on our family, friends, co-workers, and neighbors. There is no greater story to tell than the one of what Jesus has done in our life.

As a church we have adopted Earl Hanson Elementary School in Rock Island. We host a food pantry there every other Thursday in partnership with Riverbend Food bank. We unload the truck and stock shelves at 8:30am and then distribute food to families at 2:30pm. We also provide needed items to students and teachers, seek to bless through teacher and staff appreciation, and hope to sponsor a spring carnival for the student and their families.

On the third Saturday of each month we hold a Community Kitchen and Food pantry in the church basement. This is completely free and open to everyone in the community. Our fantastic cooks serve a great breakfast from 9am to noon. During that time there is an onsite food pantry available for anyone with a need. We utilize two food banks in order to supply a wonderful variety of fresh produce and other high quality food. There are no strings attached, we just seek to bless every person who comes.

During the summer months of June and July when school is out, we engage in a variety of weekly outreaches. There is basketball in the church parking lot, Kids Club, movie nights, cookouts in the local parks, and anything else we can think of to show the love of Jesus to our neighbors.

The Friday before Halloween we host Light Night at our church. Each year over eight hundred children and parents fill out building for this free event. There are inflatables, carnival games, face painting, cotton candy, popcorn, $1 or less carnival-style food, tens of thousands of pieces of candy, and great door prizes. Over seventy-five volunteers give their time each year at this event to serve families from all over the Quad Cities.

Each month Word of Life Church sets aside 10% of the tithes and offerings that come in to support local ministries and organizations and missionary activities around the world. Some of the local partnerships we have developed include:
– One Eighty
– King’s Harvest
– Heart of Hope
– Pregnancy Resources
– Transitions Mental Health Services

– Quad Cities Prayer Center
